Understanding the numbers

How the figures above are worked out — the rules, rates and reasoning behind every line.

When is my baby due?

The estimated due date (EDD) is calculated from the first day of your last menstrual period using Naegele's rule — the standard clinical method.

It also tells you your current gestational age in weeks and which trimester you're in.

How it's calculated

Naegele's rule adds 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last period, assuming a regular 28-day cycle with ovulation around day 14.

Only about 5% of babies are born on their exact due date. An ultrasound dating scan gives a more precise estimate, especially with irregular cycles.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a due date calculator?

It's a solid estimate based on a 28-day cycle. Your doctor's dating scan is more accurate, particularly if your cycle is irregular or you're unsure of your last period.

How many weeks pregnant am I?

Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period, so you're already considered ~2 weeks pregnant at conception. The calculator shows your current week.
