Percentiles use the official WHO Child Growth Standards (0–5y) and Growth Reference (5–19y). A percentile shows where your child sits among 100 children of the same age and sex — most healthy children fall between the 3rd and 97th. This is a screen, not a diagnosis.

Example scenarios

  • 2-year-old boy, 12 kg

Just below the WHO median weight-for-age of about 12.2 kg.

    ≈ 46th percentile

  • 5-year-old girl, 18 kg

Right around the median weight for her age and sex.

    ≈ 50th percentile

Understanding the numbers

How the figures above are worked out — the rules, rates and reasoning behind every line.

Is my child growing well?

Growth percentiles compare your child's weight and height to a healthy reference population of the same age and sex. They're the same charts paediatricians use.

A percentile of 50 is the median; most healthy children sit somewhere between the 3rd and 97th percentile.

How it's calculated

We use the official WHO Child Growth Standards (0–5 years) and WHO Growth Reference 2007 (5–19 years), applying the LMS method to turn your child's measurement into a z-score and percentile.

What matters most is a steady trend along a percentile line over time, not a single reading. Always discuss concerns with your doctor.

Frequently asked questions

What is a growth percentile?

It shows where your child ranks among 100 children of the same age and sex. The 60th percentile for weight means they're heavier than 60 of those 100 children.

What percentile is normal?

There's no single 'normal' — anywhere from the 3rd to 97th percentile can be perfectly healthy. A sudden drop or jump across percentile lines is what's worth checking.

Which growth charts does this use?

The World Health Organization Child Growth Standards (under 5) and Growth Reference 2007 (5–19), the international standard used in Malaysia and worldwide.
