Will you get a refund?
Your employer deducts PCB every month based on your salary, but it doesn't know about most of your reliefs. When you file Form BE, LHDN works out your actual tax for the year. If PCB was more than that, you get the difference back; if less, you pay the balance.
Enter the totals from your EA form, then tick off the reliefs you can claim. Each relief is capped at its YA 2026 limit automatically.
How it's calculated
Chargeable income = total income − reliefs. Tax follows the resident rates, from 0% on the first RM5,000 to 30% above RM2 million. A RM400 rebate applies if chargeable income is RM35,000 or less, and zakat reduces tax ringgit for ringgit.
Your EPF counts up to RM4,000 and your SOCSO and EIS up to RM350, both straight from the EA form.
What's new for YA 2026
Budget 2026 widened several reliefs: childcare up to RM3,000 for children up to 12, learning-disability therapy up to RM10,000, life and medical insurance now covering your children, all approved vaccines, and a new RM1,000 relief for tourist attraction tickets in 2026.
Frequently asked questions
When is the e-Filing deadline?+
Form BE (employment income only) is due 30 April, with e-Filing accepted until 15 May. Form B, for business income, is due 30 June, or 15 July by e-Filing.
Why do I get a tax refund?+
PCB is deducted on your salary alone. Reliefs like lifestyle, medical, insurance and PRS are only counted when you file, so your actual tax is often lower than the PCB already paid. LHDN refunds the difference.
What's the difference between a relief and a rebate?+
A relief reduces the income you're taxed on, so it saves you its value × your tax rate. A rebate, like zakat or the RM400 individual rebate, comes straight off the tax itself.
