Understanding the numbers
How the figures above are worked out — the rules, rates and reasoning behind every line.
Estimates only. Results are for planning purposes and may differ from official figures. Confirm against the relevant authority before making financial decisions.
Why your bonus shrinks
A bonus is added to your annual income, so it's taxed at your top marginal rate — and EPF is deducted from it too. That's why the cash you receive is less than the headline figure.
This shows the tax (PCB) and EPF on your bonus, and your net cash bonus.
How it's calculated
We compute your annual tax with and without the bonus; the difference is the tax the bonus adds. EPF is taken at the statutory 11% employee rate.
Your EPF deduction isn't lost — it goes into your retirement account. Only the tax is money gone. Figures assume a single, resident employee.
Frequently asked questions
How is bonus taxed in Malaysia?+
A bonus is added to your yearly income and taxed at your marginal (top) rate under PCB. There's no separate flat bonus tax rate.
Is EPF deducted from bonus?+
Yes — bonuses are wages for EPF, so the employee share (typically 11%) is deducted, though it goes into your own EPF account.
