Gross vs net salary
Gross salary is your agreed pay before deductions. Net salary — your take-home pay — is what remains after statutory contributions and tax.
Use this to check your payslip, compare job offers, or budget around the amount that actually reaches your account.
From gross to net, step by step
1. Start with gross monthly salary. 2. Subtract EPF (11%). 3. Subtract SOCSO, EIS and SKBBK per the PERKESO tables (capped at RM6,000 wage). 4. Subtract PCB monthly tax (MTD). What's left is your net pay.
Bonuses are added to your annual income and can push you into a higher tax band for the month they're paid.
Comparing two job offers
A higher gross salary doesn't always mean a higher take-home, once tax bands and reliefs differ. Run both offers here to compare net pay side by side.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between gross and net salary?+
Gross is your salary before deductions. Net (take-home) is after EPF, SOCSO, EIS, SKBBK and PCB tax have been deducted.
Is SKBBK / Lindung 24 Jam still mandatory?+
It is mandatory for foreign workers. From 8 July 2026 it is voluntary (opt-out) for Malaysian citizens and permanent residents — anyone who doesn't submit a PERKESO Release of Liability Notice during the opt-out window stays enrolled and continues paying 0.75%.
Does net salary include bonus?+
Bonuses are added to your gross income and taxed, so they increase both gross and net pay — though tax on a bonus can be higher in the month it's paid.
How much is deducted from a RM4,000 salary?+
Roughly RM440 EPF, RM19.75 SOCSO, RM7.90 EIS, RM29.65 SKBBK (if enrolled) and about RM17 PCB for a single resident — leaving around RM3,486 take-home, before any extra reliefs.
