Body fat percentage is a better health signal than weight alone, because it separates fat from muscle and bone.
The US Navy method estimates it from your height and a few circumference measurements.

It's a reasonable estimate for most people, within a few percent of more precise methods. Consistent measuring matters more than absolute precision.
Roughly 14–24% for men and 21–31% for women is considered the average-to-fitness range, though it varies with age and goals.
This uses the US Navy method, which estimates body fat % using neck, waist, and hip (females only) circumference measurements. It's free, non-invasive, and reasonably accurate (±3%) for most people.
Use a soft measuring tape around the narrowest part of the neck, just below the larynx (Adam's apple). Keep tape snug but not tight. Measure while standing, looking straight ahead. Record to nearest 0.1 cm.
Measure horizontally around the smallest part of your abdomen, typically at the navel level. Keep the tape parallel to the ground, snug (but not compressing skin), and measure after exhaling. Record to nearest 0.1 cm.

BMI uses height/weight; body fat % accounts for muscle mass. A muscular person may have high BMI but low body fat. Conversely, someone at 'normal' BMI may have high body fat if sedentary. Use both metrics for complete picture.
Measure every 2-4 weeks if tracking progress. Body fat changes slowly (0.5-1% per month with diet/exercise). Daily fluctuations aren't meaningful; focus on long-term trends.
